“What do you get when you cross clinical research with quality improvement?”
Dr. Robertson Harrop
Dr. Robertson Harrop is a Pediatric Plastic Surgeon of the Alberta Children’s Hopsital and a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine. He attended medical school at Queen’s University, followed by a plastic surgery residency at the University of Alberta. During his residency he completed a Master of Science degree in the molecular biology of hypertrophic scars with Dr. Ted Tredget at the University of Alberta. He did a fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery with Dr. Lloyd Carlsen in Toronto followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Plastic Surgery with Drs. Ron Zuker, Howard Clarke and Hugh Thomson at the Hospital for Sick Childrent at the University of Toronto. He then completed a Master of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Calgary.
Since joining the faculty of the Department of Surgery at the University of Calgary, Dr. Harrop has served as the Director of the Office of Surgical Research at the University of Calgary and recently completed two 5-year terms as the Head of the Section of Plastic Surgery at the University of Calgary.
He is presently the Director of the Office of Surgical Quality in the Department of Surgery at the University of Calgary. He is a past president of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and a past president of the Educational Foundation of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons. He sits on the Royal College written and oral plastic surgery examination boards.
Dr. Harrop’s clinical interests include microsurgery, peripheral nerve surgery, oncologic reconstruction, and congenital hand surgery. His research interests include clinical outcomes research, clinical care pathways development and quality improvement/assurance.
