Dr Mark McRae was educated at Cornell University , and Yale University School of Medicine. His Plastic Surgery residency was at New York University. He then completed a craniofacial surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto and completed a Master's Of Education in the Della Lana School of Public Health University of Toronto. Dr McRae moved his practice to McMaster University Division of Plastic Surgery in 2015. He was the Clinical Teaching Unit Director at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, he was the faculty lead for competency based medical education for the Division of Plastic Surgery, and the Competence Committee Chair. He led and expanded the microsurgical breast reconstruction program at St Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. During that time he was also a member of the Ontario Medical Association Division of Plastic Surgery Executive board.

He moved to St Michael's Hospital University of Toronto as Associate Professor in January of 2024. To St Michael's he brings specialized expertise to the breast reconstruction, and craniofacial surgery programs. He is an experienced microsurgeon and general plastic surgeon. He is the co-lead to the St. Michael's Hospital Surgical Education Program for medical Students. Dr. Mark McRae maintains a private aesthetic surgery practice where he specializes in facial plastic surgery, breast surgery, and body contouring.
