A Graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and The Gallie Course in surgery, Dr. Carman has had a rewarding career in both private and public service. He served as Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Scarborough Hospital and as Director of the Scarborough General Hospital Burn Unit. He was President of the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (CSAPS) and served on the editorial board of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
He is currently Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (CAAASF). He maintains his own private clinic, the Cosmetic Surgery Institute, in midtown Toronto.
